Handmade Coastal Christmas Table Decor

Handmade Coastal Christmas Table Decor

A few years ago, I created a Coastal Christmas Table Decor. I grew up in Paris, and one of more exotic things about living in Australia is having Christmas in summer. A white Christmas is lovely but I got used to the southern hemisphere version quite easily! I found that going to the beach on Christmas Day is a very different experience from what I grew up with, and I became interested in beach style and a much more natural colour scheme.

Coastal: blue, white, cream, sand

For this handmade project, I used some leftover materials from previous projects and created a table setting with shells I picked up on the beach. The polystyrene cones came from Lincraft and I created a colour combination with cream coloured calico and blue hessian. First, I used a thick seagrass string to wrap around the large cone. I had to painstakingly glue the string to the cone, which took a while, but the result is great.

I left the hessian and the calico with rough edges which gave the whole thing a nice organic feel.

White Clay

This theme could be a very simple coastal decor, so I added some handmade white clay ornaments. There are lots of recipes on the internet but Musings from a French Cottage has a really good one.

This is a simple and versatile craft, you can use your cookie cutters to create any shape you want. You can also add food dye to the mix to experiment with colours. You can even stamp and paint them. My ornaments are a few years old now but they’re still solid. This previous post shows how I decorate my home for Christmas.

So here it is, a simple table centrepiece to celebrate a Christmas by the beach. My Christmas style is quite natural and organic, and that applies to Advent Calendars, gift wrapping and Christmas Baubles.

Oooh your beach style Christmas is such a cool and unique idea! I love how even though the colors are totally different, it still feels like the holidays!

Thanks Danielle! I have to say I really like Christmas by the beach! But someday I want to have a Christmas in the snow again!
