I think we’re all clear now about the fact that I’m a Purl Soho devotee… I have learned so much about sewing through their projects, and they don’t pay me to say so! All my favourite Purl Soho handmade baby gifts are listed below. I made them all, several times and they’ve always been a hit!
Hooded Towel and Washcloth Set by Purl Soho
One of my first baby gifts, there must be at least half a dozen babies in France and Australia with one of those. It’s an easy project, but working with terry cloth can be a little challenging. And I would recommend using a walking foot when finishing the garment. To me, this Hooded Towel And Washcloth Set is an Essential Baby Gift.
Oxford Burp Cloths by Purl Soho
I have made these many times, they’re actually a great project to learn how to sew curves… The Oxford fabric and cotton flannel are really soft and it’s a real pleasure to create something so simple and so perfect!
Baby Pants by Purl Soho
These come in 3 sizes, because babies grow quickly… I’ve only made one so far as part of my Essential Baby Gift Set and I’m really happy with the result. I love the contrast of the plain white lining cotton fabric and the coloured patch. There is a little challenge and getting the coloured piece to fit in with the rest of the pants but that’s a great opportunity to learn.
Liberty Bibs by Purl Soho
Another useful gift parents will thank you for… Great for learning how to sew curves and working with terry towelling, the organic one recommended by the Purl Bee is definitely worth it! You also have an opportunity to sew metal snaps, something I need to get better at!
Tiny Triangle Dress by Purl Soho
This is an intermediate project, best for lightweight fabric. The Liberty of London fabric recommended by Purl Soho is ideal. You can modify the length or make the dress a little longer.
Easy Sewn Blanket by Purl Soho
This is so easy! And choosing the selection of colours is so much fun! I must have spent hours on the fabric.com website playing with different combinations. I never thought such an easy project could impress so much, I want to make one for myself !
