Gift Ideas for the Sewing Addict

Do you have a friend who’s into sewing? Like, totally obsessed with it? Someone who may call themselves “not a hoarder, but the curator of a fabric collection”? I am one of those and here are a few gift  ideas for the Sewing Addict.

The Gift of Fabric

Sewing addicts never have enough fabric, at least according to themselves… Ask their partner, and you might get a different response. To Sewing Addicts, buying fabric is like buying shoes, they can always justify it. Being gifted fabric is a lovely treat, and not that common. I have a decent fabric stash, probably small compared to some, and I decided to highlight some beautiful japanese fabrics from Indigo Niche and some samples from France Duval-Stalla I bought in Paris.

I’m not a hoarder, I’m the curator of a fabric collection

Sewing Kits

You might think a kit would be wasted on an experienced Sewing Addict… Think not, they make a lovely gift, a bit like those gift boxes with a selection of cosmetics or candles. They can bring new inspiration or provide a welcome side project. And think of the convenience of having everything you need to complete a project, no running around to gather everything that you need!

I would love to get my hands on a Purl Soho sewing kit, their fabrics are gorgeous and their projects have been a major source of inspiration for my sewing projects.

Hand Cream

Sewing Addicts should look after their hands, right? There is nothing like the feeling of soft hands before you sit down to start a new project… so, splurge on your friend! One of my favourites is L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.

Pattern Books

I felt a sense of achievement when I graduated to clothes making, as if the training wheels had come off… I discovered the Yoshiko Tsukiori books recently and the clothes are a dream…

Chocolates

We Sewing Addicts are only human, we do require some sustenance while we’re hunched over the sewing machine… A nice selection of fine chocolates can only survive one afternoon of sewing and creating… My favourites are Haigh’s Chocolates, especially if they come in a pretty box…

Tea

A varied and comforting beverage, well known to develop creative abilities… Personally, I’m a T2 fan. I love the variety and the beautiful gift sets. Of course, tea could be replaced with coffee for some people but I’m not an adept, and I would have no idea what to recommend.

Storage boxes

Sound storage is probably the most difficult thing to achieve for a Sewing Addict. Imagine piles of fabric stuffed in cupboards, tools and notions in various bags, in no particular order. A sewing box is never organised and never big enough. I do have various bags for buttons, needles, pins but I have a box for basics where I store the things I use the most. I found mine on Etsy. It’s probably too small for all the things I have but I love its soft fabric feel.

Company

Yes, sewing can be a lonely pastime… You can sit in your room, moving from sewing machine to ironing board, then back again, for many hours at a time… So, every now and then, it’s nice to have company, even from someone who’s not into sewing…

Other Ideas

Sewing requires a beginner’s sewing kit and also some additional tools.

Thanks Chantelle, there should always be room for more fabric, it’s a golden rule!
